Balloon Care Tips

Balloon Care Tips

A quick guide to keeping your balloons looking beautiful from setup to celebration.

Indoor vs. Outdoor

  • Balloons last much longer indoors where temperatures are stable.
  • Outdoor décor is gorgeous but unpredictable — heat, cold, wind, and sun can all affect longevity.
  • If your event is outside, expect natural movement, oxidation (a matte finish), and shorter lifespan.

Temperature Matters

  • Balloons expand in heat and shrink in cold.
  • Extreme temperatures can cause popping or deflation.
  • If transporting balloons, keep your car cool and avoid direct sunlight.

Handling & Transport

  • Keep sharp objects, rough surfaces, and textured ceilings away from balloons.
  • Avoid squeezing or pressing on garlands — they’re sturdy, but not crush‑proof.
  • If you’re picking up a Grab‑and‑Go, clear your backseat or trunk before arrival.

Longevity Expectations

  • Indoors: balloons can last several days to weeks, depending on the design.
  • Outdoors: décor is considered temporary and may only last a few hours.
  • Helium balloons naturally shrink over time — this is normal.

Weather Notes for Outdoor Installs

  • Sun causes oxidation (a chalky look).
  • Wind can tangle or shift garlands.
  • Cold makes balloons shrink and look under‑inflated until they warm up again.
  • Foil balloons are sensitive to temperature changes — they can expand and pop in heat, and they may shrink or deflate in cold weather.

Pro Tip

If you want your décor to last as long as possible, choose an indoor setup or a shaded, protected outdoor area.

Please keep popped or deflated balloons away from small children, as they can pose a choking risk.

Balloon Materials & Safety

You may have seen recent conversations online about nitrosamines in latex balloons. These studies focused on children inflating balloons by mouth, where saliva comes into direct contact with the latex.

For professional installations like the ones I create, balloons are always inflated using electric or hand pumps, which removes that exposure pathway entirely.

I also source high‑quality, reputable balloon brands for all standard installations. On rare rush jobs where a budget brand may be used, those balloons are still inflated with pumps and remain within normal safety guidelines.

If you ever have questions about materials or safety, I’m always happy to help.
